The little girl is Margaret(Maggie) Flannigan, his niece. Photo was taken just prior to the migration from Elmore County, AL to Jackson Parish of Calton and family. Russell, who was a widower and Cival War veteran stayed behind and married a neighbor girl 40 years his junior(Martha Nail). Russell died in 1898 at 72 years old. He was a shoemaker and served in the 47th Alabama Infantry(raised in Tallapoosa County, AL.) He survived Gettesburg, and many more famous battles. He was discharged at Appomattox Courthouse, being present when General Lee surrendered. Maggie of course later married Leland Pool in Jackson Parish.
